Gossip Girl BFFs aren’t BFFs after all

Blake Lively and Leighton Meester became huge names after the teen drama television series Gossip Girl came out in 2007. Blake and Leighton played the lead protagonists who were ultimately meant to be best friends despite their on-and-off relationship on-screen. The stars’ relationship did not accurately translate off-screen, however. Some have said that the two started out as friends, but that working on the show caused them to drift apart eventually. Others also say that some backstage shade-throwing happened between the two.

After Gossip Girl ended in 2012, the two reportedly stopped talking to each other. People have speculated that Blake may have gotten jealous that the series became all about Leighton’s character. This may not be true at all either since Blake seems to be the type of person to treat her friends well, especially since she remains friends with her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-stars.

Everyone behind the series obviously didn’t want this feud to surface off-screen. Both Blake and Leighton gave entirely scripted response about their feud, even going as far as denying it altogether. The show’s PR team must have also done a fantastic job, since their fight was either entirely non-existent or flawlessly covered up.
