Met a man online and planned to run away with him to Syria and join ISIS.
Shanon Conley was 19 when she met her boyfriend only. Shortly after, she converted to Islam and felt strongly about righting wrongs against Muslims. She decided to join the ISIS using her skills as a certified nurse. She joined U.S. Army Explorers to be trained in U.S. military tactics and firearms and obtained first aid/nursing certification and the National Rifle Association certification which she was going to use to help ISIS.
When she told her father about her relationship with her boyfriend, and that she planned to move to Syria. When he pleaded desperately with her to change her mind, he found a one-way ticket to Istanbul. Her father tipped off authorities, and she was arrested at the Denver airport before she could even board the flight. During a search of her home agents found DVD lectures by Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born Islamic terrorist, and other jihadist videos. She is now serving a four-year sentence for conspiracy to provide material support for a terrorist organization.
“If they think I’m a terrorist, I’ll give them something to think I am,” she said while being interviewed by the FBI.
