Throwback Thursday: Taylor Swift’s Original Platinum Singles!

Taylor Swift’s 1989 Platinum!

It was announced last night that Taylor Swift’s new album 1989 has sold 1.287 million copies in it’s first week, and became the first platinum album of the year. This is the strongest debut of an album since 2002, in a time where record sales have been struggling to compete with online music sources. Taylor Swift made a bold move earlier this week removing all of her music from Spotify, and apparently it’s turning out to be a good business move as she has convinced fans to actually pay for her music-somewhat of an anomaly these days.

“Teardrops On My Guitar” was the second single released from Taylor Swift and became the highest charted single from the album at number thirteen. The song was certified double-platinum and had international success.

“Our Song” was the third single released and gained critical acclaim. It took the top spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs and number sixteen on Billboards Top 100.

#4 “Picture to Burn”

“Picture to Burn” released in 2008 and was the fourth consecutive song to hit top ten for Hot Country Songs. The song was praised for it’s feminist elements and was yet another single to be certified platinum.

#5 “Should’ve Said No”

“Should’ve Said No” was Swift’s final single to be released from the album in 2008, and it did not disappoint. The song became her second to reach the number one spot on Hot Country Songs and was certified double platinum.
